    Nepal – 2025–2026 Update

    1. INTRODUCTION

    The Government of Nepal, through the Department of Tourism, has updated the regulations governing expeditions to Mount Everest.

    These changes aim to improve climber safety, reduce overcrowding on the mountain, and minimize the environmental impact caused by high-altitude tourism.

    3. MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

    Previous experience: Climbers must have previously ascended a mountain of at least 7,000 meters in Nepal.

    Medical certificate: Must be issued within the previous 30 days.

    Mandatory guides: Ascents must be carried out with professional guides, preferably Nepalese.

    4. COSTS AND PERMITS

    Climbing permit: Approximately USD 15,000 per person.

    Mandatory insurance: Must cover rescue, evacuation, and repatriation.
